I’m in heaven right now. I just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE summer. It’s warm and sunny most of the time and I love nothing better than wearing shorts and going barefoot. Spring and fall are pretty, but there’s just something about summer that makes me want to sit on the patio with a good book and a glass of iced tea and relax. When I close my eyes, I can be anywhere…at Hapuna listening to waves, in Door County listening to waves, overlooking Maiden Lake listening to waves…oh wait…there are no waves there, but it’s still pretty.

It’s that time of year when vacation is the main word on my mind. I’d love nothing better than being at a lake house at sunset. No bugs, low humidity, and a glistening sun streaming down across the water. I can smell the aroma of Coppertone and hear the Beach Boys playing in the background. The slam of the screen door and happy kids playing…ah…the memories of summer.

It’s also the time of year for doing something fun outside, like taking a walk, hiking, playing bocce or croquet. I can be happy watching a spider building a web or an ant hauling loot back to its nest. The warmth of summer permeates my skin and it’s a feeling I try to recall when it’s 10 degrees and I’m slipping and sliding to work.

Enjoy the pretty flowers and the scents and sounds of the season, whether you’re in the city, country, or at the beach. Now…who has some really cold and crunchy watermelon to share?
