Chocolate

All of the posts I’ve written and I’ve neglected to blog specifically about one of my favorite things…chocolate. Interesting that when I think about one food item I could take to a deserted island, chocolate has never made the list, but I still adore it and eat it every week, in almost every form. Oddly enough, I know some people who don’t like chocolate. Don’t get that at all. What’s not to love?

How do I eat chocolate? Let me count the ways… chocolate malts, brownies, mocha frap, chocolate chip cookies, red velvet cake, ice cream bars, ice cream sandwiches, Ovaltine, and then there are my favorite candies, Reese’s Peanut Butter cups or Bits, Chocolove bars, Almond Joy or Mounds, cocoa-dusted almonds, chocolate-covered Altoids, Kit-Kat, Lindt, and Seattle Chocolates’ bars. I just finished eating a few peanut M&Ms, another fav. As a kid, I almost always used some of my allowance to buy Ice Cubes, a wee bit of chocolate that wasn’t cold, but because of the name, I always thought it felt cold on my tongue. I had a piece recently and it didn’t taste as good as I remembered. Back then, it seemed very smooth and didn’t have a medicinal taste.

At work, I have a chocolate stash in my bottom drawer. Right now, I have a Lindt Intense Pear and nut bar that I got at Whole Foods. I was a bit concerned, because I didn’t know whether the pear would be in bits or flavor, but it’s in bits and reminds me of candied ginger. It’s very good. I also have a Chocolove Cherries and Almonds bar, and a good old Hershey’s bar as a backup. Whenever I go to a store that sells any type of chocolate, you can bet I’m perusing the display to see if there is something unusual to try. If it’s chocolate or covered with chocolate, I’ll try it. And I’m rarely disappointed.

What is your favorite chocolate item? Do share!

What would I take to a deserted island? Strawberry shortcake made with fresh, ripe berries, real whipped cream, and homemade shortcake, preferably my mother’s.
